The Spirit of Adoption: Father’s Day, Family, and the Hope That Builds Generations
A bit about Fathers, the World Cup, and Hope
As we celebrate Father’s Day, we honor fathers, grandfathers, mentors, coaches, pastors, and every caring adult who has stepped into the role of guiding, protecting, and shaping a child’s life. It is a day that reflects gratitude and a deeper reflection on what it means to be a family.
For many, Father’s Day is filled with joy and tradition. Conversely, for others, it is marked by absence, loss, or abandonment. Father’s Day is complex. And for countless children and youth in foster care and adoption systems, the idea of “father” has often been fractured, inconsistent, or unknown.
Yet in the middle of that reality, there is a greater truth. A family is not only defined by biology, but by love, presence, commitment, and sacrifice.
The Spirit of Adoption
Scripture gives us one of the most powerful pictures of belonging in Romans 8:15:
“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’”
This is the heart of the Gospel. God does not simply tolerate us. He adopts us. He brings the broken, the orphaned, and the weary into His family and calls them His own. This same God provided the vision and purpose of Covenant, “to minister to the fatherless in their time of need.” (James 1:27).
This “spirit of adoption” becomes more than a theological idea; it becomes a living expression of love that reshapes identity, restores hope, and creates belonging where it once did not exist.
For youth in foster care, this message is not abstract or an analogy. It is deeply personal.

Alternative Family Structures That Transform Lives
Foster care, adoption, kinship care, and supportive community networks reflect the adoptive spirit in practical ways. While not every youth experience legal adoption, many experience something just as life-changing … the presence of people who choose them.
At Covenant Community Services, we see this every day.
We see it in donors who provide resources that make stability possible.
We see it in prayer partners who faithfully lift up names and needs before God.
We see it in businesses that open doors of employment and opportunity.
We see it in churches, organizations, and community partners who stand in the gap.
And we see it in individuals who simply show up … consistently, compassionately, and without condition.
Together, they become a family that says: “You are not forgotten. You belong here.”
And in that belonging, lives are changed.
A Father’s Heart and the Hope We Carry
Father’s Day also reflects something deeply human: hope for our children.
A father’s heart dreams of protection, provision, and purpose for his children. Accordingly, a father wants his children to thrive, succeed, and step confidently into their future. That same longing mirrors what God places within every caregiver, mentor, and supporter who invests in a young person’s life.
And in a very real sense, this same spirit of hope is something we are witnessing globally.
As the World Cup unfolds, fans from every nation are united by a shared passion. Every match carries expectation. Every team represents the hopes of a country. Every goal ignites belief that “this could be our year.”
In many ways, it mirrors the heart of a father.
A father watches his child with the same anticipation fans watch their team. A father spends time hoping, believing, cheering, and sometimes holding their breath through the challenges. There is pride in progress, resilience in setbacks, and joy in breakthrough moments. It’s the old, “Thrill of victory and the agony of defeat!”
That global excitement reminds us of something important: hope is powerful, and people thrive when they believe in something bigger than themselves. This is why we developed the slogan “hope lives here” and why the logo is a lighthouse. Our purpose is to have the Father’s heart and to be a beacon in the storm for foster youth.
For foster youth, that hope and beacon to safety often begins when someone finally believes in them.

The Covenant Family and the Power of Community
This is where the work of Covenant Community Services becomes more than a program. Our work becomes a family system rooted in love, structure, and belonging.
Youth flourish not because one person changes their life, but because a community surrounds them. Healing happens when love is consistent. Confidence grows when someone says, “I believe in you,” and proves it over time.
This is the spirit of adoption in action.
It is seen in safe housing, mentoring relationships, job opportunities, education support, and spiritual encouragement. It is sustained by people who choose to invest their time, their resources, and their prayers into the lives of young people who need it most.
A Closing Thank You and Invitation
On this Father’s Day, we want to extend heartfelt gratitude to every donor, prayer partner, volunteer, business, organization, church, and individual who stands with us in this mission.
You are not just supporting a program. You are helping create families, restore identity, and build futures.
Thank you for being part of this work of hope.
As you receive this newsletter, we invite you to stay connected and engaged. Take a moment to read, reflect, and see the lives being impacted.
And we invite you to continue with us in three simple but powerful actions:
Pray for the youth and families we serve.
Give to sustain life-changing programs and housing.
Go by volunteering, mentoring, and sharing this mission with others.
Together, we are living out the spirit of adoption—bringing belonging where there was loss, and hope where there was uncertainty.
Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Covenant Community Services.
